Aqtiv – Sea Bath and Water Sports

Welcome to Esbjerg's paradise for all water enthusiasts. Aqtiv offers you the best conditions to enjoy life on the water at Esbjerg Strand.

Aqtiv is a sea bath and water sports facility located in the lagoon behind the artificial harbor island at Esbjerg Strand. Here, you can swim from a lovely floating bathing jetty. After your swim, you can rinse off under the outdoor showers or warm up in the sauna.

You can change in the changing rooms, use the toilets, and if you bring a lock, you can secure your valuables in the lockers while you're on the water.

You'll also find plenty of water sports facilities here, which both experienced and new water enthusiasts can try out. For example, take a ride on the cableway, use one of the swimming lanes, or utilize the courses for kayak polo, canoe slalom, and sea kayak techniques if you practice canoeing, kayaking, or stand-up paddleboarding (SUP).

You also have the opportunity to engage in activities on a water polo field, mini-courses, play buoys, and a SUP yoga course.

Facilities on land

On land, you'll find a building integrated into the dike towards "Mennesket ved Havet" (The Man by the Sea). The building includes changing rooms, toilets, a sauna, preparation and washing area, equipment storage, and lockers for storing your valuables while you enjoy the water.

There are also tables and benches, so you can make a pleasant day out of your visit to Esbjerg Strand.

On the water, a lovely floating bathing jetty has been constructed to make access to the water as easy as possible.

Opening hours for the building with sauna, changing rooms, and toilets:

  • Toilets and changing rooms: 06:00–22:00
  • Sauna: 06:00–08:00 and again 17:00–19:00

Do not use scented oils in the sauna during public opening hours.

Keep the sauna door closed; otherwise, the sauna will automatically shut off.

Outside of public opening hours, private individuals, associations, and companies have the opportunity to book the sauna for their own events.

Enjoy your time in the water – watch the flag

Esbjerg Municipality continuously monitors the water quality in the lagoon around Esbjerg Strand throughout the year. If the bathing water quality is not satisfactory and it is not safe to swim, a red flag will be raised on the flagpole at the southern bridge on the mainland side. If you see the red flag, you should not swim.

Dive into plenty of water fun

You can swim on 50-meter lanes, the military swimming lane, 400-meter open-water lanes, and two triangular lanes.

Also, try the cableway, kayak polo course, canoe and kayak technique course, engage on the water polo field, mini-courses, or the SUP yoga course, and use the three goal buoys and five play buoys.

At the end of the summer, you can also look forward to using a new water playground.

Try wakeboarding

If you're into action, fun, and water enjoyment, the cableway at Aqtiv – Sea Bath and Water Sports might be just the thing for you. The course spans 195 meters and is filled with obstacles, providing ample challenges for all levels.

The course is open to everyone every Wednesday from 17:00–21:00 and every Saturday from 10:00–16:00. You just need to book a time and pay at Esbjerg Cable Park, which operates the course and is ready to guide you safely and enjoyably onto the waves.

Sea bath and water sports for everyone

Map: Here you can swim

Whether you're a winter bather or just a true water enthusiast, you're always welcome to use the facilities at Esbjerg Strand. Aqtiv – Sea Bath and Water Sports is for everyone.

To ensure we take good care of each other, the water area is divided into three zones:

  • If you want to bathe or swim, it must be done in the blue area. Here, you may also encounter SUP boards, kayaks, canoes, and small rowing boats, which must, of course, be considerate of other users.
  • If you practice SUP boarding, kayaking, canoeing, or small rowing boats, you may operate in all areas, considering other users.
  • The orange area is only for SUP boards, kayaks, canoes, and small rowing boats. Swimming, bathing, or sailing in pleasure boats is not allowed here.
  • The red area is reserved for pleasure sailors and people in canoes, kayaks, small rowing boats, and on SUP boards. There is no guarantee of water quality here, and for safety reasons, you must not swim or bathe here.

On the water, the areas are marked with either buoys or lane ropes.
