Shelters and cabins

Some picnic shelters, cabins and regular shelters can be booked in advance. Others are for general use if they are not occupied. Explore you many options for sleeping in the open air or to enjoy a meal with a group of friends in the countryside. 

Check if it is possible to book in advance

Some shelters and barbecue huts can be prebooked while others are available according to the first-come, first-served policy. 

The East Forrest - Østskoven

In Østskoven you can place a booking through MYRTHUE. They offer a picnic shelter, a barbecue hut and shelters. A reservation is needed if you wish to spend the night or use the facilities for a larger event during the day or in the evening. 

Please note that during school days, groups of pupils may be using the area. The use it for outdoor schooling and these groups are entitled to claim the area. But if no one is using the facilities you are more than welcome to stay. We use the first-come, first-served policy.

The barbecue hut in Østskoven

Next to the barbecue hut you will find four barbecue areas and seats for about 50 people. 

You can use the two toilets and the outdoor sinks for hand-washing. 

Please toss all garbage in the bin by the road.

Shelters at Knudsens Plads in Østskoven

At Knudsens Plads you will find four shelters. Each of them can accomodate six people. You can also use the bonfire and the picnic benches, which are roofed. 

You will find two toilets by the barbecue hut.

Please toss all garbage in the bin by the road and remember to bring your own wood for the bonfire.

Myrthuegård - shelters and barbecue hut can be booked for the weekends

Address: Myrtuevej 39, 6710 Esbjerg V.

At Myrthuegård you will find

  • our shelters that each accomodate eight people
  • an area for a bonfire - please  remember to bring your own fire wood
  • tables and picnic benches

There is a privy at the shelter area, and you can use the two toilets, water taps and a garbage bin. 

On weekdays, all shelters are reserved for the groups visiting Myrthuegård. On weekends and school holidays, other groups can book the shelter site.

Each group can use one shelter unless you agree one something else.

When you have booked a shelter, we expect that your group activities primarily take place at this site. You are of course welcome to go for a walk in the area.

Shelters in Vester Vedsted

The shelters are called "Digebørsteshelters".

Address: Vester Bjergvej 4, Vester Vedsted, 6760 Ribe. 

You can book the three shelters with these names:

  • Bærmevejen
  • Stormfloden (duplex for up to eight people)
  • Digekronen

By the cabin called Digehytten you will find a toilet and the garbage bins. 

The shelters have a place for a bonfire. Please remember to bring your own fire wood. 

You con book the place for a maximum of 28 people. Usually there is a limit of maximum two nights, but you can ask if it is possible to prolong the stay. 

If no one has booked the shelters, they are availabe by the first-come, first-served policy.

The Border Path - Grænsestien

Accommodation along the 48 km long hiking trail

The Border Path follows the former frontier from 1864. Along the path you can spend the night in shelters. 

You can for instance book a shelter by Digehytten at Vester Bjergvej 4 in Vester Vedsted. You can book it by contacting the main office at MYRTHUE - Nature and Cultural Communication Centre.
